UART

(NOT a Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter)

Instead, UART is a sub-reddit I created where artists can post links to their sites.

[UPDATE 10/07/2012]
Bearfood is down as of now. I will update here and elsewhere if/when it comes back

As an artist, it can be difficult to get the word out about your work. However, there could be many, many people in the world who would love to know about you. But you'll never find each other if they can't see your work.

With the exception of the most awesome Bearfood, I have not found a decent place to put links to my work.

Reddit should be an excellent location, but the prevailing attitude of Reddit is that self-promotion == spam.

In the case of art, I don't happen to believe that. If you're selling viagra or auto warranties, yes. But if you're just trying to give people a chance to see your work, then definitely not.

Reddit's justification is simple. It's karma, really. The more links you post to other stuff, the more accepting people are of links to your personal stuff. I have no argument with that.

As an artist working a day job however, I simply do not have the time to surf around looking for stuff to post in order to earn the right to post links to my work.

Also, why would a site's potential depend on who submitted it?

Fortunately, Reddit allows people to make sub-reddits and - as long as you don't do anything illegal - you can make up whatever rules you want.

So, with that said, I would like to invite people to visit UART and help make it a place where artists and art-appreciators can find each other.

Actually, it's kind of empty over there right now. Maybe I should make a few fake accounts
