Painting

I painted today. Real painting, as in acrylic-paint-on-canvas. I did a couple of backgrounds, and I think they came out very well, considering I was using mostly new and/or strange equipment and I haven't spray-painted on canvas in about twenty years.

During the next two weeks I will brush paint the final images on top of these backgrounds. I'll post process photos as I go.

This is all in preparation for next month's First Friday. We're going to have a booth and I wanted to have a couple of large canvases to show.

In the late '80's and early '90's, I was painting wall graphics and canvases with latex house paint. I didn't make much headway, gave up on it and then life intervened.

Back then I had no focus.

Now that I've finally found my way artistically, I actually have things to paint. There is so much I want to do and large canvases are a big part of it.

Drying

With Botaday, I scan in ballpoint pen drawings (or pencil inked with a Sharpie). Then I tweak the images in Gimp and manipulate and color them in Inkscape. But unless I get a print made, the paintings exist solely in computers.

Now, I am going to be breaking them out in glorious 2D. I plan on painting a large canvas of every one of my favorite works, because I love the way my stuff looks big and I love making things.

Going forward, I will continue to draw-and-scan, but the images will become practices for canvases instead of just rearranged magnetic particles spinning away on hard drives.

Come see us at First Friday! Nov 2nd, 2012, from 5 until 10PM in downtown Las Vegas.
