Cowboy Lemon Slice Disaster

Posted

I don't know why I have ended up with so many "western" themed drawings lately.

A few weeks ago I was stuck in traffic behind a car with a rear-window decal of a cowboy head in shadow and I was intrigued with how few lines it took to complete the design.

I tried later to recreate it, but I didn't have much luck. I had even worse luck trying to find the graphic online - I searched Google repeatedly and just couldn't come up with anything.

The closest I came to recreating it resulted in "Hat and Cowball".

Below on the left is a quick attempt at recreating the decal:

What I found intriguing about the design is that all you need to represent a cowboy hat is a little flip on the left side (red circle) and the bigger loop on the right (blue). Add a blob on top (green), and you have a passable cowboy hat.

I think it's a neat trick when extremely simple shapes are used to elegantly represent more complex forms.

(And now I've just noticed that I already said pretty much the same thing in the "Hat and Cowball" entry. Oops.)
